Knowledge and Wisdom

Knowledge and wisdom may come across as the same thing. In reality, they are quite different. By definition, knowledge is information which we believe to be true and for which we have justification or evidence. Knowledge can be gained uniformly between students, can be pulled from a book, and is easily accessible with today's technology. Wisdom, on the other hand, cannot be found in books or on the web. It must be gained through experience and life events. An example of wisdom is knowing how to live on a college budget, which can only truly be learned through going to college. At college, I am acquiring both knowledge and wisdom. The education aspect is giving me knowledge, through textbooks, researching, and lectures, while the college experience (such as living in the dorms, having low finances, becoming independent) is giving me wisdom on life situations. The information age has made us much more knowledgeable because all of our questions and curiosity can easily be answered with a few clicks on a computer or phone. Many people are forgetting that the best way to find answers is to answer them yourself, instead of have the web answer for you.

  1. Wisdom and Knowledge are two easy terms to explain. Wisdom is learning from real life experiences and knowledge is what you learn from books and other resources. As a student myself, I feel that we acquire both wisdom and knowledge in college. We learn a variety of subjects, learn how to do well in schools, and learn how to gain critical communication skills. We are gaining knowledge every day by classes and our peers. We get wisdom from having experiences, which isn’t provided for us in a book. College teaches us how to live independently, the pros and cons of drinking, and why you shouldn’t walk through downtown San Jose at night.

  2. I feel like college itself does not teach us wisdom. I feel like the experience of living on our own while we attend college is giving us wisdom. I agree with you that living on our own and living on a college budget is giving us wisdom, but I think that we are obtaining that wisdom from living on our own for the first time while in college. I feel like college the classes alone is just giving us knowledge and not wisdom. Knowledge is information learned. While in college we are giving a lot of information to learn and memorize. This is why I think in college we learn more about knowledge rather than wisdom.

  3. I agree with your personal definition about knowledge and wisdom and how you differentiated the two. Knowledge can be acquired in a number of ways such as in books, the Internet and maybe even from what our professor tells us. Wisdom, on the other hand, can only be taught to ourselves through the experiences that we go through. These experiences, whether it is good or bad, can teach us life long lessons that will make us wiser about the future decisions in life. I also liked the example you gave regarding whether we gain knowledge and wisdom in college. It could easily be related to by most of us. I think that whether we are gaining more knowledge or wisdom, we need to recognize the importance of each and use it to benefit not only ourselves, but others as well.

  4. I definitely agree with you about how knowledge and wisdom are different. I believe we use are knowledge by using books and our education to gain the knowledge. We also gain wisdom through our life experience. Your examples are perfect ways to describe the differences between both knowledge and wisdom. Our blogs are somewhat similar. Our wisdom is gained not only through college but also through our everyday lives. Our experiences do make us wiser which helps us get the wisdom we need. Learning in school helps us to gain the knowledge we desire. Most people do not no the difference between the both.

  5. I agree with you that knowledge and wisdom are indeed different things, knowledge being facts and wisdom being experience. However, I do believe that you are able to gain wisdom from books and from the internet. From books you can see what other people do in situations that you may connect to and from that you can make decisions that you can use in your life. And on the internet you can see what others do and you can ask them questions gaining the knowledge of what to in certain situations. Other than that I completely agree with what you have said.
